More than 1,000 NCAA member schools selected Skinner as the Honda Sports Award winner over other finalists Merritt Beason (Nebraska), Rachel Fairbanks (Pittsburgh) and Sarah Franklin (Wisconsin).

With the award, Skinner becomes eligible for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year award, which will be handed out on a live telecast on CBS Sports Network on June 24. Last season, Texas graduate Logan Eggleston won the award for volleyball as well as the subsequent Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year trophy.

A 6-foot-2 outside hitter from Katy who just finished her second season at Texas, Skinner earned the Final Four’s most outstanding player honor after finishing the championship-match win over Nebraska with 16 kills, two aces and one block while leading the Longhorns to a second consecutive national title. She finished the season ranked fifth in the nation in points per set (5.54) and sixth nationally in kills per set (4.8) and led the team with 46 service aces while earning first-team All-American honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
